Work was crazy, I knew my evening would be busy too. I was able to slip away for 30 min, and decided to go for a 1RM in Bench.

I was going to have a spot, but he was skittish and wanted to go back to his desk, so I banished him to the office, and had to go for a PR without a spot. AAAAAND… I forgot my wraps and sleeves, LOL. I was having tendinitis in my right arm, so I knew this would be a steep challenge.

warmup: slow neg side raises, Cuban presses, shrugs

Bench Press (long rests, no wraps, no sleeves, no spot, no future but what we make)

bar x all of the reps
135 x 5
160 x 3
190 x 3
215 x 2
245 x 1
255 x 1
270 x 1
285 x FAIL

notes: yeah… so I needed a random person in the office gym to pull it off me LOL. I would NOT recommend going for a PR without a spot. More balls than brains

After this, I had to run back to the office and get back to work!

warmup: slow neg side raises, Cuban presses, shrugs

Log Clean & Press (clean once, medium rests)

80 x 3
110 x 3
130 x 3
145 x 3
160 x 3
*wrist wraps on*
180 x 3
200 x FAIL
200 x FAIL
200 x FAIL, wipeout

notes: This was the log work I didn’t feel up to on Wednesday. I must be psychic. 180 was smooth enough, but when I went for 200 I couldn’t keep my footing, twice. I got mad and went for a third, but I totally stumbled back, and tried to control the log on the way down, but because of the stumbling my left foot was out of place, and I dropped the 200 lb log square on my foot. Ouch!

Honestly, I should have just dumped the log like an ejector seat. But you always feel bad about banging up someone else’s equipment, so my instinct was to control the descent. Anyways, I walked around for a bit, took off my shoe, my foot looked ok, it was throbbing after a few minutes. Nothing seemed broken. I decided to put on some thick winter socks, and do the rest of the workout in socks.

Bench Press (medium rests)

bar x plenty
135 x 5
185 x 5
*wraps & sleeves*
215 x 8
215 x 8
215 x 8

Closegrip Bench (wraps, sleeves, medium rest)

230 x 3
230 x 3

Spoto Press (wraps, sleeves, medium rests)

205 x 8
205 x 8
*took sleeves off*
205 x 8

notes: by the last set, my elbows were bruising up, so I wore the sleeves too long

One Arm DB Rows (long rests)

105 x 12/12
105 x 12/12
105 x 12/12
105 x 12/12

Superset: Strict DB Side Raises & DB Front Raises (short rest)

12s x 10 / 12s x 10
12s x 10 / 12s x 10

notes: while this was going on, someone agreed to give me a ride and they were leaving so I ended the workout then and left. By this point my foot was too swollen for a shoe anyways, so I was happy to get a ride back home.

Currently resting the foot up and observing the bruising.

Office workout

warmup: nada

#teamnobelt

Trap Bar Deadlifts (long rests, deadlift shoes)

320 x 2
410 x 2
460 x FAIL
460 x FAIL
410 x 2
410 x 2

notes: did not like this trap bar. the handles were far out so it felt more like a snatch grip. I don’t want to whine, but when you go over 90%, every little detail counts. I hit 475 multiple times two weeks ago on another trap bar, but this one was much different. I tried 460, and I couldn’t control it, it tipped backwards and forwards. Reset, rested 30 seconds, tried again. Still couldn’t lift it off the ground evenly, it kept tipping. So F it, dropped back down and did a few more doubles.

3 inch Block Pulls (long rests)

445 x 1
470 x FAIL
470 x FAIL
405 x 1

notes: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFuuuuuuuuuuuuCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCC
I couldn’t blame the trap bar any more. I just couldn’t go heavy tonight. When I did 445, it went up ok but was a grind to lockout. I tried 470, it left the blocks, but didn’t go much higher than that. Reset, waited a full 2 minutes, tried again. Same thing – left the blocks and got stuck there. So I dropped down to 405 and did another one and gave up on the weights tonight.

I just can’t get in the clear on this bronchitis, it keeps dragging me down, and after a few weeks, has completely derailed my training.

Went to the gym tonight, with numbers to hit.

Bench Press (long rests)

bar x lots
95 x 5
135 x 4
185 x 3
225 x 1
*wraps, sleeves on*
250 x FAIL *this was a miscue with my spotter*
250 x 1 *I was supposed to hit two, and got close but failed*
260 x FAIL *I clipped the rack on the way up. after this, I gave up on regular bench*

notes: this sucked so bad. this is the first time I couldn’t hit my numbers in 5 months of this total program. Obviously, the bronchitis has messed me up, I haven’t trained or ate or slept consistently for weeks. I need to figure out whether I can get things back on track, or just end it and go back to square one. I was supposed to mock meet on the 13th, and instead I did the same taper week twice in a row, and have failed it. I need to think on this for a bit.

And I still feel sick, and am running out of my original scrip of meds.

Slingshot Bench (wraps, long rest)

260 x 1
280 x 1

notes: 280 was a grind, but it happened

Chest Supported T Bar Row (2 min rests, elbows stay high)

1 plate x 6
2p x 6
3p x 5
3p x 5
3p x 5

then I came home. this sucks.
